Kituo Cha Daladala

Kituo Cha Daladala

Cultural

1,200,000 TZS

There is a moment at the end of every working day in Dar es Salaam that nobody talks about. The daladala hasn't come yet. The day is done but home is still far. So you sit or you stand and for a few minutes, the city holds you in place. This painting is about that moment. Some of the figures are lost in thought, replaying the day or bracing for the evening ahead. Some are on their phones, not because they are distracted, but because sometimes the mind needs somewhere to rest that isn't itself. Nobody is talking. But nobody is truly alone either. There is something quietly human about strangers sharing the same bench, the same silence, the same wait. Behind them, a billboard glows, advertising something, selling something, promising something while the people beneath it sit with their own private thoughts, unbothered. The contrast almost says it all. The world is busy trying to get their attention. And for this one moment, it fails. This is not a painting about struggle. It is a painting about the pause between struggle and rest, the in-between that most of us live in but rarely see reflected back at us.
