Lupita na kapu la matunda
Portraits
This painting is inspired by Lupita Nyong'o, an actress who has long been a muse to me since her powerful role in 12 Years a Slave, which earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2014. In the same year, Lupita was also diagnosed with uterine fibroids,a condition that affects millions of women, yet is still not talked about enough. This artwork is inspired by a photo she shared, holding a basket of fruits symbolizing the body, fertility, health, and the resilience of women everywhere. As part of my responsibility as an artist, 50% of the proceeds from this painting will be donated to a hospital or NGO supporting research and treatment of uterine fibroids. Art can be more than beauty; it can also be awareness, conversation, and impact.
